Metzger Family Restaurants to Open Poppy Kitchen at The Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona. In homage to his late grandfather whom he lovingly called “Poppy,” local restaurateur Brian Metzger announced today his plans to open Poppy Kitchen at The Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa next month. Poppy Kitchen is the latest concept of Metzger Family Restaurants, which will transform the 3,000 square foot space at the foothills resort most recently occupied by J-Bar. “Poppy Kitchen is the next chapter of my family’s story where love is expressed through our passion for food,” said Metzger. “My poppy was the most kind and loving man I’ve known, who instilled in me a strong work ethic from a very young age,” he shared. “If ever a restaurant could authentically represent kindness, love and strength from a culinary perspective, it’s Poppy Kitchen, and we’re thrilled to be opening our doors on the grounds of one of the most beautiful resorts in the world.” The menu at Poppy Kitchen will be a fusion of the flavors and flair that have defined the Metzger experience, with influences from other Metzger concepts Jax Kitchen, The Abbey and Gio Taco. “The development of Poppy Kitchen is an exciting event for us at The Westin La Paloma, and signifies the conclusion of our $35 million rejuvenation,” stated Glenn Sampert, General Manager of The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa. “We took the time necessary to find the right organization to partner with, and Metzger Family Restaurants has been creating extraordinary dining experiences here in our community for many years.” FORS Architecture and Interiors has designed the new space, which will be constructed by Building Excellence. Seating capacity is expected to be 160, with accommodations in the main dining room, private dining room, bar and large panoramic patio overlooking the resort’s emerald green Jack Nicklaus golf course. The restaurant is scheduled to open on February 21. With the planned opening of his newest restaurant, Metzger also announced today his plans to end the five-year run of his first, Jax Kitchen. “It’s a bittersweet moment to introduce something new and exciting while simultaneously saying goodbye to the one restaurant that started it all,” said Metzger. “We were facing the end of our lease period at Ina and Oracle, and spent a lot of time reflecting on what the future looked like for this company,” he continued, "and we decided that we needed to be more tightly focused on the company's growth brands. We'll forever celebrate the impact that Jax Kitchen had on our family and in this community." Jax Kitchen’s last day of operation will be Sunday, February 16. Reservations are now being taken for the final four weeks of the restaurant’s business at 219-1235.
